Frequently Asked Questions
When should teams arrive in Ann Arbor?
The welcome dinner and reception is on Thursday evening, February 2nd. Please see the RECC Agenda page for exact times. We suggest arriving several hours before then to give you ample time to account for travel delays and ground transportation to Ann Arbor.
Will there be prize money?
We do expect to offer prize money for the top three winning teams. The amounts of these prizes will be announced at the competition.
When will the case be sent out?
We expect to send the case approximately 7 days prior to the event, most likely on Thursday, January 26.
Where should we stay in Ann Arbor?
Please see the Logistics Tab on the RECC website.
Do we need to rent a car?
We plan to provide transportation to and from the Hampton Inn for the events on Thursday night and Friday. It is up to each team if they would like to rent a car for additional travel, or to and from the airport. Shuttle service is available from the airport, and information can be found on the Logistics Tab on the RECC website (www.TheRECC.org).
Are there discounts or sponsorships for student travel expenses?
We hade made arrangements with the Hampton Inn to offer discounted rooms (see Logistics Tab), but teams will be responsible for transportation expenses. At this time, we are unable to offer travel funds for competing teams.
Do all team members need to be MBA students?
The case competition is structured to be for MBA students, however exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis. The sponsor companies are expecting primarily MBAs which may fit within their respective recruiting strategies. In addition, at least two students from each team must be first year MBA students (i.e. a graduation date in 2013).
FAQ - Case
Will there be a difference in the first and final rounds?
Teams will be asked to address several questions as part of the overall case, including at least one question reserved only for the final round. There will be no additional information provided the day of the competition as teams will be required to turn in 2 slide decks when they arrive Thursday - 1 for the first round and 1 for the final round if selected. The final round will be shorter than the first round (see Rules) and will also be open to other students/faculty interested in listening to the presentations.
