Most of the world's poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor people in the world. One Acre Fund is a start–up NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure more than 100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser–like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.

WDI BoP Consultant/Field Coordinator
William Davidson Institute
www.wdi.umich.edu/

The William Davidson Institute has been in discussions with Adam Smith International's (ASI) Economic Reform Practice regarding a bid for the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency’s B4D program. In short, the program supports proposals for new forms of dialogue and collaboration with industry. The purpose of the program is to mobilize resources and encourage companies to develop their core activities so that they can contribute even more to improve conditions for poor people. In this way B4D can be of benefit in many different areas, for example health, education, agriculture and forestry, the environment, climate, energy, employment and the infrastructure.

Adam Smith International has a favored status with Sida and has agreed to include WDI in its bid as the sole subcontractor. Our exclusive role will be to provide short term expertise in the field of BoP and impact evaluation. Most of the work will be carried out in developing countries. There will also be some assignments in Stockholm and perhaps other European capitals where Sida has offices. We also anticipate having one long term position for a WDI BoP Consultant/Field Coordinator based at the proposed B4D project office in Stockholm, Sweden. All work permit requirements, expatriate status approvals, etc. will be provided by Sida. The short term consultancy daily rates are capped at $1,000 per day, plus expenses. The annual remuneration for the WDI BoP Consultant/Field Coordinator is in the $100,000-$160,000 range plus housing, etc. but must be supported by a comparable salary history.

Please indicate your interest in the project by contacting Lucas Buckland (details below) and attaching a copy of your updated resume.

Innovation Manager Organization: Acumen Fund Posted: October 4 2010 Location: New York, US

Innovation Manager

Acumen exists to help end poverty by changing how the world addresses it. We do this in two ways. We invest patient capital to identify, strengthen and scale business models that effectively serve the poor. And we champion and spread this approach as an effective complement to traditional aid, which can create dependence, or pure market approaches, which can bypass the actual needs of the poor.

Founded in 2001, Acumen Fund has invested about $50 million in enterprises that serve the poor in East Africa, India and Pakistan. Building on the success and lessons learned from our portfolio, Acumen Fund set out in the last year to influence key stakeholders in international development, including government, so that poverty can be addressed more effectively and efficiently through patient capital. We believe we have a unique opportunity for Influence at this moment in history - with our own knowledge and evidence of what works, and an Administration committed to social innovation and open to new solutions to poverty.

Acumen Fund is looking for an exceedingly curious, creative, alive individual - with a passion for moving the needle in social enterprise and a clear commitment to developing their own and others' leadership - to provide a broad range of high level support to the CEO. Acumen Fund's CEO has a wide portfolio of responsibilities, including leading Acumen's Influence strategy and being the principal public face of Acumen Fund. The Innovation Manager is a point person for all aspects of the CEOs work (in collaboration with team members and external stakeholders), and serves as a trusted advisor and resource to the CEO.
