About the Department:
The mission of Supply Chain Services is to develop strategies for our existing and future Fair Trade Certified products in order to deliver impact to producers, the market, and consumers. The department is the home of the organization’s product experts who maintain updated knowledge of available supply volumes, qualities, and origins, and how they compare to US market demand and any US import restrictions. With this knowledge, Supply Chain Services serves as internal consultants, analysts and problem solvers, particularly supporting the Business Development team as they build relationships that will link producers with an increasing number of US-based businesses. Supply Chain Services also manages cross-organizational processes to set and execute long-term strategies to expand supply for key origins or qualities, per the needs of the market.
About the Job:
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for supporting Supply Chain and Business Development staff in the acquisition and maintenance of Fair Trade USA’s Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and ingredient (packaged food & body care companies) business partners. He/she helps currently licensed grocery and ingredient companies grow their Fair Trade Certified sales by connecting them to existing Fair Trade Certified supply; by working to recruit new supply through strategies such as extending existing standards to new products and/or origins, and recruiting new producers or converting partners’ existing supply chains to Fair Trade Certified; and by managing development projects to improve production quality, co-op business practices, and/or access to financing for key Fair Trade Certified producer organizations. The Supply Chain Manager focuses 50% on cocoa and 50% on other CPG products, as necessary. Products in the CPG Category include, but are not limited to sugar, cocoa, honey, tea, herbs & spices, beans & grains, nuts & oilseeds, and processed fruits & vegetables. The Manager reports to the Senior Supply Chain Manager for CPG and collaborates with the entire departmental team.
Responsibilities:
·        Analyze cocoa supply data against Fair Trade cocoa demand and coordinate the cross organizational team to set a cocoa strategy for Fair Trade USA.
·        Maintain relationships with key Fair Trade certified cocoa producers to support them and connect them to market opportunities.
·        Maintain relationships with key cocoa importers and processors for the US market in order to help them plan their sourcing in response to US Fair Trade demand.
·        Design and execute supply expansion projects, including recruitment of new producers, processors, and importers. Provide guidance to these entities as they work through the certification process.
·        Design and execute projects to remove supply roadblocks, such as development projects to improve production quality, co-op business practices, or access to financing for key Fair Trade Certified producers.
·        Stay abreast of cocoa industry news, programs, opportunities and challenges, and educate the Supply Chain, Business Development, and Certification teams as appropriate.
·        Represent FTUSA at cocoa industry events and serve on industry working groups.
·        Respond to requests to create market linkages and build supply chains for high impact opportunities in additional products such as beans, nuts, oilseeds, etc., as needed.
·        Develop and manage internal relationships through constant and ongoing collaboration with our Certification and Business Development Departments.
Requirements:
·        Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational or work experience.
·        3 years professional work experience, preferably in cocoa, ethical certification or international sourcing.
·        Strong verbal and written communication with excellent follow-through skills.
·        Must be detail-oriented, logical, systematic, methodical, highly organized, able to problem solve and often work autonomously.
·        Flexible, adaptable and be able to multi-task due to the fast-paced and varying nature of the work environment.
·        Strong knowledge of computer/internet skills, such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of Sales Force or other CRM preferred.
·        French and Spanish language skills.
